Collecting Memories

trophy Awarded

This collection is a personal exploration of memory, place, and identity, deeply rooted in the nostalgia of her grandparent’s farm. It draws inspiration from rusted objects, buried memories, fond symbols and the raw beauty of natural forms.

A dream-like state carries through the collection, capturing the innocence and unfiltered freedom of childhood, setting the audience in Lillian’s world of playing dress-up, running barefoot through dirt paths, exploring the unknown, and seeing the world through wonder-filled eyes.

Lillian MacNevin

Lillian MacNevin is an emergent designer from Meanjin/Brisbane. Her works are, at their very core, authentic and expressive physical manifestations of lived experience. Lillian draws inspiration from the sources around her, whether that be introspective and internally focused, objective based and explorative, or seeking beauty in the lived story of others. Lillian also finds herself being drawn to nature as a foundation for her compositions and processes. This love for organic and uncertain outcomes is expressed in her work as she embraces experimentation and unpredictability. Lillian routinely works within her journal, experimenting through hands-on creation, and iterates with textile manipulations. Her practice celebrates the natural world through tactile techniques such as felting, rust dyeing, and other forms of natural dyeing, while upholding the importance of sustainable approaches and honouring increasingly rare traditional practices.
