JUST MEAT

This collection explores the commodification of AFAB and feminine-presenting bodies and the way in which society views them as meat products. This is explored through the aesthetic and lifestyle of burlesque, questioning systems that both confine and extort these people.

Gore Whore would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land in which they work and display their art, the Turrbal and Yugara people, and pay respects to Elders past and present.

Models: Cameron (@loveys_boi), LU (@lu.fishoutofwater), August (@augophobia), and Vellatrix (@_vellatrix_). Saturn (@saturn.ii.ade) will be replacing LU for the in-person runway.

Nearly all the materials used in this collection were sustainably sourced, whether it was the yarn inherited from my grandmother or the fabric thrifted or purchased at the Nest Haberdashery. Anything that was bought new came from reputable sources such as the Fabric Store.

This image depicts the model LU crouched on the floor, body facing to the right with their head turned to the camera. Their hand is resting on their head while tassels from their glove trail over their face.

I bleed.

For this collection, I was inspired by the inherent violence and gore that comes with being a woman. We are born to blood, and we bleed regularly. Yet under the patriarchy, this is seen as disgusting and something to hide. I am tired of hiding… I wear it as a badge of honor, but one that doesn’t define me.

Lu is wearing a hand-beaded corset with detachable panels, paired with a removable bustled tulle skirt atop a semi-felted crochet micro skirt. Their accessories include tulle gloves, a beaded tampon earring, and an embossed leather bralette.
August (model) stands confidently, hands cradling their head, facing the camera.

Am I a cow?

Are we a slab of meat to you? You gawk as we pass in the street, yelling from your cars and grabbing our flesh despite our no. You call me a slut, yet when I reclaim that word you don’t like it. It turns out that many of us don’t care about your expectations. We take your hatred and misogyny, turning it into something violent, bloody, and beautiful.

August is wearing a satin corset covered in unraveling knitted panels atop a pair of fully adjustable ruffled crochet shorts. They are also adorned in burnt bustle pads and sleeveys, as well as a lacey ribcage tote. A vial of my blood adorns their neck with a hand-sculpted heart.
Cameron (model) squats on the floor facing the left with their head turned to camera, peering over a feather fan.

Can anyone see me?

Gender and the patriarchy are a prison. I refuse to let it hold me.

Cameron is wearing a semi-felted crochet dress atop a chainmail bralette made from hand-made stainless steel links with a butterfly closure inherited from my grandmother. They hold a feathered fan and wear a lace garter, both adorned with minx ribs sustainably sourced from NSW.
Vellatrix stands facing the camera, veil draped over their head.

You think I’m Weird.

I don’t care if you think badly of me for going against the systems that hold me down. Shame is the tool used to bind myself and others and I refuse to feel it.

Vellatrix wears a spray-painted calico dress, designed for a quick reveal. The dress falls away, showing an embossed pink leather bralette with a matching harness and leash. This is paired with a red crocheted skirt covered in blue organza, red tulle, and heavy beading.
